It always had sufficient water and good rain conditions which fortunately have prevailed to date. Here is a bird's eye view of our water resources and how they are judiciously being used even in the present day.

Khadakwasla Dam
Khadakwasla is a mainly known for a dam which is situated 20m km from Pune. This dam is one of the main sources of water for the city of Pune. In the vicinity,there is a Dental Centre, a Veterinary Hospital and, the wellknown National Defence Academy and Central Water & Power Research Station(CWPRS). Just a few kilometres up the road, lies Sinhagad Fort and the twin dams of Panshet and Varasgaon which mainly supply water for irrigation. In 1961, the Khadakwasla Dam had to be blown, as the Panshet Dam overflowed, causing devastating floods in the city of Pune. The dam was later rebuilt. The original dam, built in the 1879 as a masonry gravity dam was the first of its kind in the world.

Panshet Dam
Panshet Dam, also called Tanajisagar Dam, is a dam on the Ambi river about 50 km southwest of the city of Pune in western India. The dam was constructed in late 1950s for irrigation and, along with three other dams nearby, Varasgaon, Temghar and Khadakwasla, it supplies drinking water to Pune. The height of the dam above its lowest foundation is 63.56 m (208.5 ft) while the length is 1,039 m (3,409 ft). The volume content is 4,190 cubic kilometer (1,010 cu mi) and gross storage capacity is 303,000.00 cubic kilometer (72,693.57 cu mi).

Varasgaon Dam
Varasgaon dam is situated on the Mose river which supplies water to city of Pune, Maharashtra, India. It is also called Veer Pasalkar dam. It is one of the three major dams which provide water to Pune city. It is located around 40 km from Pune city. The Panshet dam is adjacent to Varasgaon dam, and together both have become a popular picnic spot.During the monsoon or just after monsoon the hills around are lush green with plenty of waterfall. Water sports are also played in this dam.

Temghar Dam
Temghar Dam, is a earthfill and gravity dam on Mutha river near Mulashi, Pune District in state of Maharashtra in India.The height of the dam above lowest foundation is 42.5 m (139 ft) while the length is 1,075 m (3,527 ft). The volume content is 1,188 cubic kilometer (285 cu mi) and gross storage capacity is 107,900.00 cubic kilometer (25,886.59 cu mi).

Our city, Pune is a heaven for knowledge seekers, farmers, industrialists, IT industry, Schools, Colleges, Universities and the population is increasing three fold.
